Privacy policy

Effective October 1, 2026

The short version

  • Your sweeps, saved names and settings stay on your iPhone.
  • To check a name, the app sends that name to the services it checks. That's the only way to ask them.
  • No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and we never sell data.
  • An account is optional. If you make one, we store your email address and nothing about your sweeps.

This policy explains what the NameSweep iPhone app ("NameSweep", "we") does with information, and is provided by Luke Mulholland. If anything here is unclear, email support@namesweep.app.

What stays on your device

Names you sweep, their results, your library of saved sweeps, comparisons and app settings are stored only on your iPhone. We don't receive or back them up. Deleting the app deletes them.

If you add an optional GitHub token in Settings, it is stored in your iPhone's Keychain and sent only to GitHub, to raise GitHub's rate limit for your checks.

What leaves your device when you sweep

NameSweep checks availability by asking each service directly from your phone. Each request contains the name (or variant) you're checking, plus the ordinary technical details any app sends with a web request, such as your IP address. These services receive the name:

Each of these services handles requests under its own privacy policy. NameSweep does not send them anything that identifies you beyond what a web request carries.

Domain prices come from a public price list (Porkbun's pricing API). That request contains no name and nothing about you.

Optional account

You don't need an account to use NameSweep or to buy Pro. If you choose to sign in (with Apple, Google or email), we store your email address and an account ID with our authentication provider, Supabase. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, and for Sign in with Apple accounts it also revokes NameSweep's access to your Apple ID.

Purchases

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. The app checks your purchase with Apple's StoreKit on your device to unlock Pro.

Links to other sites

Buttons such as Buy domain or Sign up open the registrar or the platform's own website, and their privacy policies apply there. Some registrar links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The registrar may record that you arrived from NameSweep; we receive no personal information from it.

What we don't do

Children

NameSweep is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. The only such information is the email address of an optional account. You can delete it yourself in the app, or email us and we'll help.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
